Prisoner 243026 is obsessed with Batman, reading and learning everything he can about him for years. He finally gets out and uses the loot he had stashed to buy a mansion and establish himself as a respectable gentleman named Cameron Van Cleer. He is then invited to join the board of directors of the Gotham museum alongside Bruce Wayne. He secretly has a cave and tunnel dug under his house and kills the workers when they are finished. Then he creates a costumed persona called Killer Moth, complete with a Mothmobeil, an (as yet empty) trophy room, and a crime lab devoted to finding ways to make crimes unsolvable. He vows he will be to crime what batman is to the law, even holding a meeting at which he distributed Moth signals to criminals. Hours later, Van Cleer is dining with Bruce Wayne when only a moment before Van Cleer sees the infrared Moth signal with his special lenses. Killer Moth and Batman meet for the first time and briefly battle in the air before Moth leads Bat on a car chase that ends when Moth releases first blinding gas and knockout gas from his car. Batman wakes in the Moth Cave and finds Robin swinging from a rope around a fire. Moth tells him to take him to the Batcave or Robin will die. Batman agrees and is blindfolded while they leave the Moth cave. Robin escapes but is blinded by gas as he makes his way out of the Moth cave so he can't find his way back. The police find him and he radios Batman that he is safe, not knowing Killer Moth can hear the police radio through his helmet. Killer Moth seems to jump from the car but actually clings to the side until Batman stops then leads Batman up the support of the bridge they are on. he tries to make Batman fall but ends up falling from the bridge himself and is presumed dead.
